When I was in my engineering college, the one thing that impressed me a lot is command prompt. I saw my professor using command prompt so effectively. So I decided to learn command prompt so that I can make most out of it. So I started playing with it and discovered some different ways to open it.

So here are those different ways to open command prompt. Let’s get started.

#1 Use Run box to open command prompt
Go to start menu open run box then type cmd and hit enter. You can open run box by simply pressing ‘win + R’ key. Also Run box stores the history. So next time you want to open a cmd, just open Run box and use UP/Down arrow to find history. This will save a lot of your time.

#2 Use Task Manager to open command Prompt
So there might be a case when your computer might not responding and you need to open cmd , So in this case just open a task manager by pressing “ctrl+alt+del”. After this click on file then click on new run, here type “cmd and hit enter”, this will open a command prompt for you.

3# open cmd in any directory

You can even open a command prompt by right clicking in any directory. Just right click while holding shift button and select open command prompt here. This will open a command prompt in current directory.

#4 Open Command Prompt from start menu

So far this is most widely used way to open command prompt. Just go to start menu, in search box type cmd and then click on cmd icon.
To run command prompt as administrator, Right click on cmd icon and select run as administrator.

#5 Create a Command Prompt Shortcut on the Desktop

If you love to use shortcuts, then you can create a shortcut to command prompt and paste that shortcut on desktop. From here by double clicking on shortcut, you will be able to access cmd easily. To create a shortcut just go to start menu type cmd, right click and copy it. Once copied paste it to desktop.

#6 Pin it the Start Menu/Taskbar

If you don’t want shortcut to be on your desktop, then you can pin it to taskbar. Just go to start menu search for cmd, Right click on it and then select “pin it to taskbar”. Similarly you can also pin it to start menu.
